CareerBuilder + Monster – Indeed + Glassdoor

Monster + Careerbuilder - Indeed + GlassDoorHappy Friday, Job Board Doctor friends. I’m back, fresh off a great (and sweltering) day at RecFest UK, hosted just north of London at Knebworth Park.

Lots to catch up on this week:

  • Indeed and Glassdoor Layoffs

  • Monster Changes RIF Terms

  • CareerBuilder + Monster Auction

Indeed and Glassdoor Layoffs

The day was beautiful, the content was strong, and the beer was flowing—and then the news broke.

I think I was standing near one of the two Indeed booths along the carnival’s fairway when I heard: Indeed and Glassdoor, both owned by parent company Recruit Holdings, have laid off 1,300 people.

Recruit Holdings and Indeed CEO, Hisayuki Idekoba, emailed employees last week, saying that “AI is changing the world,” and, presumably because of that, the company must adapt.

I almost choked on my delicious Somersby when I read that line.

Let’s be real. Indeed and Glassdoor have (or had) a massive amount of redundancies, and this is an efficiency play—an overdue one. Why dress it up in AI? Because that makes it look like proactive management instead of reactive cost-cutting.

These are moves that former CEO Chris Hyams failed to act on, allowing inefficiencies and bloat to fester—likely resulting in more pain for current and former employees now.

Monster Changes the Terms

Late last month, I wrote about rumors regarding changes in Monster’s RIF agreement with employees. Today, I can confirm that this is unfortunately the case.

In documents reviewed by the Job Board Doctor team, effective June 22, 2025, Monster dramatically rewrote its terms of separation—just days before slashing sales and marketing positions in multiple locations.

The Low Lights:

Topic Prior Version June 22 Version
Severance Formula 1.5 weeks base pay per year of service (min 2, max 16) 2 weeks of base pay, regardless of tenure
Payout Schedule Paid in regular paycheck installments Lump sum payment
PTO Default to state rules or separate PTO policy “Any and all accrued but unused PTO shall be forfeited…to the maximum extent permitted by law.”

For Monster employees, this isn’t just business—it’s personal.

Additional tips about missed severance payouts and a hold on European employee paychecks have landed in my inbox, but I have not yet been able to verify them. If you have intel one way or the other, message me here.

CareerBuilder + Monster Auction Saga

As of 8:30 a.m. EST, we are still awaiting the outcome of the CareerBuilder + Monster bidder auction. We fully expected a conclusion yesterday, but according to creditors and bidders I spoke with this morning, we’re still in process.

(MINI) Reality Check:

I’m watching and waiting for the outcome—and I’m ready to dive into what it means next for our industry. As soon as I know, you’ll know. Keep an eye out for a special edition once the gavel drops.

Until next time,

Julie “The Doc” Sowash
